Questions & Answers

Below are answers to some common questions we think visitors might have. If you have a question you think should be added, please contact the webmaster from the contact us page.

What should I wear to visit Cohansey Baptist Church on Sunday morning?

The dress style is casual. Wear whatever makes you comfortable and whatever you would like to wear, although we do ask that you dress modest. If you would like to dress up, go ahead and wear a suit; if you want to dress down, feel free to wear shorts and a t-shirt. We feel that it is your personal decision what you wear.

What is Children's Church?

Children's Church is a time where the kids who go can learn a Biblical message in more of a hands-on and involved message than the sermon. This time is specifically grafted and designed to be able to teach them in a way that they will understand and enjoy.

Where does the pastor get all these neat ideas of holy living? Where does all his teaching come from?

All of our teaching and preaching comes from God Himself, written down in His Word, the Bible. The Bible has information on everything from ancient history, to a description of the future times, to instructions for daily living. We believe the Bible is more than just a book on the shelf...it is powerful and is our guidebook for daily living. A Christian t-shirt I saw said this:"Real men ask for directions." And the best of all directions come from the Bible.

What is the purpose of Communion (the Lord's Supper)?

Communion is a time of remembrance of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for each of us. When we eat the bread, we remember Jesus' body being cut and torn for us. When we drink the juice, we remember Jesus' blood being poured out for us.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them. (Mark 14:22-24)

Who can take Communion (eat the bread and drink the juice) at our church?

Any professed, born-again (saved) Christian may eat and drink Communion with us. Membership with our church or our denomination is not a requirement, nor is baptism. The last thing we ask is that you will examine yourself and decide if you should take it. It comes down to a personal decision.

How is Communion served and taken at Cohansey?

The Deacons and Associate Deacons pass out the bread to everyone who wishes to take it. You may use this time to pray. We eat the bread together when Pastor Pete announces it. The Deacons and Associate Deacons pass out the juice. We drink the juice together when Pastor Pete announces it. We then usually sing the first verse of the hymn "Blest Be The Tie That Binds" because Communion is something that binds us together as a people of God regardless of denomination, church, race, job, etc.. We are bound together in the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross.
